A not so distant memory

The other day I sat on a sand dune & was challenged.... A man walked upto me "Look into the distance my friend" he said & I did as he asked. "I have three elephants, beautiful animals they are" he exclaimed, I agreed. "What do you seek in this place?" he asked me still looking at elephants. "Nothing much" I replyed. "Then why do you sit here my friend? This is a place of business state your need & it will be fulfilled at a price". I replyed saying "This place has offered it's wealth to me already, I'm basking in it's knowledge & mighty expanse". The man walked away from me as his steps grew further away my eyes began to close although I fought the feeling...next thing I knew my eyes were shut but all my senses still awake, no i wasn't sleeping just wasn't allowed to see. "Now my friend" I heard his voice in the distance "prove yourself, if you are truly one with this place then the answer will be presented to you". Immideately I understood he was not just any man but a figure sent to test me. "Alright" I replied nervous as I couldn't see what was happening around me. "You saw my three animals, as of now they stand exactly where they were earlier" I nodded not able to see a thing. "Now they will run in any random direction all three of them either together or on their own, I want you to point out where they stand when they're done running". For a moment I wondered how I would be able to pull this off? but just as I began to search for options a cold breeze came over me, my right hand dropped into the sand & I leveled out the patch under where my hand lay. Then judging from my memory of where the elephants were I placed three fingers lightly on the sand's surface. With a deep breath I cleared my mind till I was almost motionless. "I'm ready" I exclaimed. without a word the elephants began to run around....but how did I know this?? they wasn't any sound....but wait my fingers...they began to move...each a little different from the other...that's when I realised what was happening...the movement of each animal caused a minute disturbance in the sand causing a couple of sand granules to move from under where I had lightly placed my finger on the surface...now my mind was concentrating ONLY on my fingertips...all of a sudden it has become all but apparent to me...I was tracking a heavy animal by it's minute seismic activity....but wait I couldn't have thought of it myself! I just couldn't have...next thing I know my eyes have opened I look into the sand & see the lines my fingers traced, but when I looked up in the distance there was nobody there! no man, no animal...that's when I smiled & realised I wasn't just basking in it's wisdom I was speaking with it.
